Solve the following system. If a unique solution does not exist, state whether the system is inconsistent or dependent.
2x - y = 4
2x - y = 6
Subtract the 1st equation from the 2nd to get:
0=2
This is a contradiction meaning there is no solution.
The system is inconsistent because calling the pair of
equations a "system" implies that the "x" and the "y"
in both equations mean the same in both statements.
But we found that cannot be true. So the system is
inconsistent.
