"graph 2x+3y-6 i am studying for the tasp and have been out of school over 10 years and i can not get this. can you explain it step by step please?"
*I am assuming the equation is 2x + 3y = 6*
Slope-intercept form is y = mx + b
m is the slope of the line
b is the y-intercept of the line {where it crosses the y-axis}
2x + 3y = 6
3y = -2x + 6 {subtracted 2x from both sides}
y = (-2/3)x + 2 {divided both sides by 3}
slope = -2/3
y-intercept = 2
To graph:
- put a point on 2, on the y-axis, that is the y-intercept
- from there, go down 2 and to the right three and put another point, since the slope is -2/3 and that is rise/run
- draw a line through the two points
