Hi
In 1993 a farmer owned 250 acres. In 2004 he owned 312 acres.
Using the point-slope formula,
(2004,312)and
(1993,250) m = 62/11
Using the standard slope-intercept form for an equation of a line y = mx + b
where m is the slope and b the y-intercept:
y = (62/11)x + 250 |x is the years beyond 1993
how many acres should he own in 2012 x = 19
y = (62/11)*19 + 250
y = 107 + 250 = 357 acres
