Write an equation of the line that is parallel to the to the graph of y-3x=4 and has the same y-intercept as the graph of 4y+x=36
First we'll find the slope of the first equation, since lines are parallel our slope will be the same. So if you add 3x to each side you get
y-3x+3x=3x+4
y=3x+4 which means our slope is m=3
Next we need to find the y intercept of the second equation. So we solve it for y by subtracting x from each side and then dividing each side by 4.
4y+x-x=-x+4
4y=-x+4

so now you plug in x=0 in order to find y intercept of that equaiton

so the intercept is b=1
so now we have y intercept and a slope so we can use the slope intercept form and plug in what we know
y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept
y=3x+1
