Now simply add any number you want to the left or right side. I'm going to add the number 1 to the right side to get . This equation has no solution.
Here's why:
Start with the given equation.
Subtract from both sides.
Combine like terms on the left side.
Simplify.
Since this equation is NEVER true for any x value, this means that there are no solutions.
