The general formula of a linear-equation is : y=ax+b
To find the equation we have to find a and b.
Since point P is on this line, replace x and y of P in the formula:8=6a+b (1)
Since point Q is on this line, replace x and y of Q in the formula:16=12a+b (2)
From equation (1): 8=6a+b----> 8-6a=b (1')
Replace b in equation (2) by 8-6a
(2) 16=12a+(8-6a)---->16=12a+8-6a--->16-8=12a-6a--->8=6a--->a=8/6--->a=4/3
Replace a by 4/3 in (1'): 8-6(4/3)=b---> b=8-8---> b=0
Replace a by 4/3 and b by 0 in the general formula: y=4x/3+0---> y=4x/3
The answer is : y=4x/3
