You might use slope to determine how fast a population is growing, or apply the slope formula to find the instantaneous rate of change (called the derivative) which has multiple applications in various sciences.

y-intercepts can be useful in determine the original starting point, e.g. if we have some equation for position , the y-intercept, 10, gives the original position X.
