Question 391335: I really need some help here! Guys. Sorry to disturb you but please help me with my homework:
If (1,m),(-1,1),(3,9), and (n,13) are on the same line, find m and n.
*this is about missing coordinates of the line through given points that has given
the slope.
THANKS!

Hi,
Using the point-slope formula,
(-1,1),(3,9)
m = 9-1 /3-(-1) = 8/4 = 2/1
Using the standard slope-intercept form for an equation of a line y = mx + b
where m is the slope and b the y-intercept.
y = 2x + b Using ordered pair(-1,1) to solve for b
1 = 2(-1) + b
3 = b
Equation of the line is:

(1,m) would be (1,5)
y = 2*1 + 3
(n,13)would be (5,13)
13 = 2x + 3
10 = 2x
5= x
