Question 390273: Write the slope-intercept equation of the line perpendicular to y = 5/2 x - 2, which passes though the point (0, 2).

Let m1 be slope for line y = 5/2 x - 2
Let m2 be slope for the line perpendicular to it.
Therefore m1=5/2 for line y=5/2x-2
We have to find m2.
To find the slope of a perpendicular line we use the equation
m1.m2= -1
5/2.m2= -1
m2= -2/5
Use the point slope form of the line to generate the equation for the perpendicular line.
The lines passes through the points (0,2)
y-y1 = m(x-x1)
y-2 = -2/5(x-0)
y-2 = -2/5x+0
y = -2/5x+2
