Question 378771: 2x+y=-2
6x+3y=6
I am not understanding how to graph this equation?

Answer by vleith(2983)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The graph will be two lines. As you know, two lines can have only one of three possible options when you plot them.
1) They never intersect (they are parallel)
2) They are the same line (coindicent) so they have all points in common
3) They intersaect at a single point
To graph these two lines:
Pick one equation
pick one value for x.
Then solve for y.
Plot that point.
Now pick a second value for x,
solve for y
plot that point
Draw the line through the two points.
Now take the second equation and do the same set of steps.
Pick two vlaues for x and solve for y.
Plot the points.
Draw that second line.
Then see which of the three options above apply

These two lines have the same slope, so they are parallel. They never touch

slope is -2

slope is also -2.
Same slope means they are parallel
