Question 354401: the band is selling gift wrap. the gift wrap sold in solid colors for $4.00 and print for $6.00 per roll. The total number of rolls sold was 480, total amount of money was $2340. How many rolls of each kind were sold? I did trial and error and found that 165 of 4 and 280 of $6 = 2340 but I do not know how to solve the correct way?
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
but your "solution" does not have the correct number of rolls
s + p = 480
4s + 6p = 2340
solve by substitution or elimination
multiplying the 1st equation by -4 ___ -4s - 4p = -1920
adding to the 2nd equation (to eliminate s)___ 2p = 420
