What you do is you line them up according to terms...so with
2x+ y= 3
-2x+5y=-9
whats 2x -2x...........0
whats y +5y...........6y
whats 3 -9............-6
So the new formulas after doing like terms is....
0+6y=-6
6y=-6
y= -1
Know plug y=-1 back into any of the 2 original equations to get x
2x +(-1)= 3
2x=4

x=2
