: I don't understand this. It's frustrating. I was doing just fine In this chapter untill getting to this point. Can someone give me a step by step on how to do this? I have to graph the line with the given slope that goes through the given point.
In this problem it's: Through (0,-2) with m=1/2

Answer by narayaba(40)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The general equation of a straight line with slope m is y = m*x + c.
where c is the y intercept.
The slope of the line is given as 1/2
The equation of the line becomes y = 1/2*x + c (equation 1)
The only unknown in the above equation is c
To find out c
It is given that the line passes through (0,-2)
plugging in y = -2 and x = 0 in equation 1
we get -2 = 1/2 * 0 + c
-2 = 0 + c i.e c = -2
Thus the equation of the straight line is y = 1/2*x -2
