Question 350205: Hey I have a table of values chart and I need to find out the equation that fits a linear model, quadratic model and exponential model.
Can You just help me out with what I have to do to plug in the values into which equation. The table of values chart is below:
X = (Y)
1 =(14 000)
2 =(9100)
3 =(4000)
4 =(4000)
5 =(3000)
How do i find out the linear model, quadratic model and exponential model for this table.
Please can someone help me...ive been stuck on this question for a long time...Thank You!

If you have data and want to fit a curve, first step is to graph the data.

If you have to find the linear, exponential, and quadratic model to fit the data, the quickest and easiest way is to use EXCEL's Chart Wizard, then fit a trendline using a linear, exponential, and quadratic model. When you "Add Trendline" click on the Options tab to display the equation on the chart. Then you'll have all of the coefficients for the equation.

If I am understanding the question properly:

Generally, one would plot the points and see what the graph looks like to determine if it represents an equation that fits a linear model, quadratic model and exponential model by the type of graph the points represent.

*Note: in this case, the x value does not always have an unique value for y.
As in the case of the x values of 3 and 4 both resulting in 4000 for y.
Therefore: values given state they do not represent a "function" of x and would not fit any of the models.
