you graph the equation of y = -2x - 1.

you shade the area of y < -2x - 1.

it will be the area of the graph that is underneath the line of the equation.

the graph of the equation of y = -2x - 1 will look like this.

you can see that, for every value of x, y = -2x-1 will be on the line and y < -2x-1 will be underneath the line.
