Question 348685: Hertz will rent you a full size car for $50 per day with unlimited mileage. Enterprise will charge you $35 per day, but adds $0.50 per mile for every mile above 100. What is the maximum number of miles you should drive an Enterprise car in one day in order for you to pay less for it than for one from Hertz?
Answer by nyc_function(2741) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The Hertz car will cost you $50, the Enterprise car will cost you $35,
therefore the difference is $15. You can drive 100 miles with the Enterprise
car before you incur any additional mileage cost, and then you can drive just
enough miles to not reach that $15 difference.
At $0.50 per mile that will allow you to drive 29 miles above the 100, which
will put your total cost for the Enterprise car at $35 + (29 x 0.50) = $49.50.
If you were to drive one more mile you would have equalled the Hertz cost.
So, the answer is 129 miles.
