Question 335976: Directions: Graph the line that satisfies each set of conditions.
Problem: Passes through (-3, -1), parallel to a line whose slope is -1
I am pretty sure you use the "point-slope" formula on this problem, but I'm still have a bit of trouble. Thank you.

Parallel lines have equal slopes. So this line has a slope of -1.

---Point-Slope Formula---
where is the slope, and is the given point

So lets use the Point-Slope Formula to find the equation of the line

Plug in , , and

Rewrite as

Rewrite as

Distribute

Multiply and to get

Subtract 1 from both sides to isolate y

Combine like terms and to get

Simplify.

So the equation is

Now graph the line to get

Graph of the parallel line (green) through the point .
