SOLUTION: How do you solve 4x - 5 = 4x + 10 ? I have tried to isolate the x variable, but keep coming up with 0 = 15! It doesn't make sense! Did the textbook have a misprint?

Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solve 4x - 5 = 4x + 10
---
Subtract 4x from both sides
-5 = 10
---
That is a contradiction.
-----------------
The "equation" is inconsistent because
the "x" on the left does not equal the
"x" on the right.
-----
There is no solution for the equation.
