Question 332181: graph the equation and plot at least five points for each equation.
x-2y=6
Answer by texttutoring(324) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is a line. You should always turn it into the equation of a line form, y=mx+b.
x-2y = 6
x-6 = 2y
x/2 -6/2 = y
y = x/2 - 3
Comparing this to y=mx+b, we see that m=1/2 and b= - 3.
This means the slope is 1/2 (it goes up 1, right 2, up 1, right 2, and so on...) and the line crosses the y-axis at y=-3.
You can graph it by putting a dot at y=-3 to start. This point is (0,-3)
Then travel up 1, over 2. This will take you to the point (2,-2).
You can continue this 'staircase', and your next 3 points will be:
(4,-1)
(6,0)
(8,1)
