[-4,10] means that -4 and -10 are included portions of the region. Typcially this is graphed with a filled in circle.

.
(-4,10] means that -10 is included but -4 is not.
Typically this is graphed with an open circle to signify that it's not included.

.
.
.
[-4,10) : 10 not included, -4 included

.
.
.
(-4,-10) : Neither -4 nor 10 are included.

As an example, the equation

would show the interval as an open circle or "{" bracket.
while

would be solid or "[" bracket.
