substitution method:
6x - y = 10
y = -3/4x - 1
--------------
Sub for y into the 1st eqn
substitution method:
6x - y = 10
6x - (-3x/4 - 1) = 10
6x + 3x/4 + 1 = 10
27x/4 = 9
27x = 36
x = 4/3

Solve by substitution:

Substitute this for y in the first equation.
Simplify the left side.
Multiply through by 4 to clear the fraction.
Combine the x's.
Subtract 4 from both sides.
Divide both sides by 27.
