Question 30744: (x+5)/5=(x-4)/8
Answer by ikdeep(226)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x+5)/5=(x-4)/8
cross multiply and we get
8(x+5) = 5(x-4)
solving brackets would give ...
8x + 40 = 5x - 20
put together like variables from both sides and we get..
8x - 5x = -20 - 40
3x = -60
divide both sides by 3 and we get...
x = -20
Now if you want to verify you answer ,,,you can put the values of x in the equation and if you get LHS=RHS,,,this means that you answer is correct..
hope this will help you
