Question 300168: 5(x+8)-13=3
Answer by mathfolife(2)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When solving these types of problems you want to get x on one side by itself and the numbers on the other side. Also remember whatever you do to one side, you must do to the other.
5(x+8)-13=3
first you can add 13 to both sides
5(x+8)-13+13=3+13
5(x+8)=16
you can then divide both sides by 5
5(x+8)/5=16/5
(x+8)=16/5
your almost done! to get the x alone you need to subtract 8 from both sides
(x+8)-8=16/5 -8
x= (16/5) -8
