Question 283749: I am practicing for my placement exam at Penn State and the practice quiz gave me this:
"Find an equation of the line containing the points (-7,3) and (3, 1)."
I thought I knew how to do it by finding the slope first and then plugging in an ordered pair and solving for B. BUT the quiz said my answer was wrong and that the correct answer is "x + 5y = 8"
My question is, how in the world did it get that answer?????
An explanation would be very beneficial!! Thank you!!!!!

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + 5y = 8 is an equation with the given points. But that doesn't mean that yours is wrong.
Curiously x + 5y = 8 is not in slope intercept form.
Was yours y=-x/5+8/5 or equivalent?
So what was yours? Show me your exact steps.
