Marcie can walk 10 miles in the same time as Frank walks 8 miles. If Marcie walks 2 miles per hour faster than Frank, then how fast does each person walk?
----------------------------------------------
Marcie DATA:
distance = 10 mi ; time = x hrs ; rate = 10/x mph
-------------------------------------------------------
Frank DATA:
distance = 8 mi ; time = x hrs ; rate = 8/x mph
----------------------------
Equation:
Marcie rate - Frank rate = 2 mph
10/x - 8/x = 2
10 - 8 = 2x
2 = 2x
x = 1 hr
=================
Marcie rate = 10/1 = 10 mph
Frank rate = 8/1 = 8 mph
