Question 26500: Solve by elimination method I can't seem to get the correct answer. HELP!!!!!!
1. 5x+6y=44
-5x+y=19
2. 9x-y=52
x+8y=22
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1st Problem:
Add the two equations to get: 7y=63
Then y=9
Plug that into one of the original equations to solve for "x":
5x+6(9)=44
5x=44-54=-10
x=2
Solution for the system is (2,9)
2nd Problem:
To eliminate the "y's" multiply the 1st equation by 8 to get:
72x-8y=416
Now, add that to the 2nd equation to get:
73x=438
x=6
Plug that into one of the original equation to solve for "y":
6+8y=22
8y=16
y=2
The solution for the system is (6,2)
