Question 26490: COMPUTE 1/5 - 2/3
Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To add or subtract fractions they need to have the same denominator.
The least common denominator (LCD) for your problem is 3*5=15
So, convert each denominator to 15, as follows:
1/5=(3/3)(1/5)=3/15
2/3=(5/5)(2/3)=10/15
Then the problem becomes:
3/15 - 10/15=-7/15
