Question 253977: I don't know how I can show a graph on here, but I have a math problem that
shows a triange RST graphed on a coordinate grid.
The best I can do is tell what the points of the triangl are
R is (-5, -2)
S is (-2, -6)
T is (-6, -5)
Now
Part A
On the coordinate grid above, graph R'S'T, the image of triange RST after
a translation of 8 units to the right.
What I believe I have to do is take the point of S (-2, -6) which is the
point closest to the right in the grid and just count over 8 units.
That would mean that S would be be (6, -6). Then I would move the T
to the new position of (2, -5). Finally, the R would be at the new location of
(3, -2).
Is this right?
Part B asks this question.
How do the size and shape of R'S'T' compare with the size and shape of tri RST?
I think that the size and shape would remain the same after a translation of
8 units to the right.
Am I correct?
Part C
On the coordinate grid, I then have to graph R''S''T'', the image of R'S'T
after a reflection over the x axis.
I know that my triange would be in the upper right quadrant. I know that
it would flip over the line so that it would be a reflection. How can
I determine the coordinates of the vertices for the R''S''T'' final triangle.
I'm trying my best on this one. I know that it is alot of information, but
I hope someone can please help me.
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
good job on A and B
when you reflect a point over the x-axis; the x-values are unchanged, while the y-values change sign
(similarly, with reflection over the y-axis)
(reflection over the origin, causes BOTH signs to change)
eg. ___ (3,2) reflected over the x-axis becomes (3,-2)
