Question 252803: A line passes through the origin and has a slope of 1/3. A point on the line is
(t, t+2). What is t?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the plan
find the equation of the line by point slope
y=mx+b
plug in 1/3 for m
y=x/3+b
plug in the x and y of the origin (0,0)
0=0+b
b=0
plug b back in the equation
y=x/3
substitute the point (t,t+2) for x and y
t+2=t/3
3t+6=t
2t=-6
t=-3
t+2=-1
the point is (-3,-1)
