Question 248214: This says solve by the substitution method
5x+9y=-11
-5x+y=21
it says the solution is an ordered pair, I get substitution mixed up with elimination can someone expain how to get this solution by the substitution method? Thanks so much
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
substitute the value of a quantity from one equation for the same quantity in another equation
5x = -11 - 9y ___ -5x = 11 + 9y
substituting ___ 11 + 9y + y = 21 ___ 10y = 10 ___ y = 1
substituting ___ 5x = -11 - 9(1) ___ x = -4
