Write the slope intercept form of the equation for the line with y-intercept 5 and x-intercept 4.

Step 1. The slope-intercept from is given as y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept when x=0 and at point(0,b). The x-intercept occurs at point (a,0) when x=a and y=0.

Step 2. Given y-intercept b=5, means x=0. Substitute into the equation in slope intercept form, 5=m*x+b or b=5.

Step 3. Now we need to find the slope. So the x-intercept is 4 or x=4 and y=0 as given. Then substitute in the equation yields y=0=m*4+5 since we found b=5 in step 2. Finding the slope b yields the following steps.

Subtract 5 from both sides

Divide by 4 to both sides of the equation

Step 4. ANSWER: where the slope m is and the y-intercept .

Using the x-intercept point (4,0) and y-intercept point (0,5), we have the following graph:

I hope the above steps and explanation were helpful.
