Step 1. Distribute -1 into the parenthesis.





Step 2. Now combine like terms (8y-5y) as shown below.



Step 3. Add 2 to both sides of equation to isolate 3y on left side of equation and note -2+2=0.





Step 4. Now, divide by 3 in both sides of equation and note 3/3=1.





Step 5. ANSWER: y=6
