Question 199326: Write the equation of the line passing through the points (-7, 2) and (5, 8) in slope intercept form. Please show work.
I know it's using m=y^2-y^1/x^2-x^1 and then point slope y-y^1=m(x-x^1) -- but the fraction is throwing me off.
Please help.
Thank you.
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(-7, 2) and (5, 8)
Y=mX+b is the line equation where m=slope & b=the y intersection.
slope=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)=(8-2)/(5-[-7])=6/12=1/2 ans.
Now replace the X & Y with one set of points & solve for b.
2=1/2(-7)+b
2=-7/2+b
b=2+7/2
b=2+3.5
b=5.5 the y intercept.
y=x/2+5.5
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, x/2 +5.5).
