Factor the numerator, then eliminate the factor of x - 3 common to both numerator and denominator. That leaves you with x + 4 as x approaches 3, in other words, 7.

Limit of x+4 as x approaches three is x+4 = 7

Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
compute the following limit:
lim x^2+x-12/x-3
x->3
---------------------
Factor to get [(x+4)(x-3)/(x-3)]
= (x+4)
---------------------
Take the limit as x goes to 3
-----
limit = 7
-------------------------------------
You can see this in the graph:
