Answer by RAY100(1637) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
setting equations equal to each other
(x +1) = (3 *x - 7)
simplify
(x + 1) + 7 = (3 * x -7) +7
x +8 = 3*x
subtract x both sides
8 = 2 *x
divide both sides by 2
x = 4
check, 4 +1 = 3 * 4 -7 , 5= 5, ok
substitute to solve for y
y = x + 1 = 4 +1 = 5
check is as before
