Question 186845: When Kate excersices, she either swims or runs. She wants to spend a minimum of 8 hours a week exercising, and she wants to swim 3 times the amount she runs. What is the minimum amount of time she must spend doing each exercise?
Answer by user_dude2008(1862)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x=time running, y=time swimming

"She wants to spend a minimum of 8 hours a week exercising" ---> x+y ≥ 8

" she wants to swim 3 times the amount she runs" ----> y=3x

x+y ≥ 8

x+3x ≥ 8

4x ≥ 8

x ≥ 2 ... 2 hrs running minimum

y=3x

y=3(2)

y=6 ... 6 hrs swimming minimum
