Question 186366: Solve each system by addition method. Determine whether the equations are independent, dependent or inconsistent.
x-y=3
-6+6y=17
Answer by feliz1965(151) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve each system by addition method. Determine whether the equations are independent, dependent or inconsistent.
..x - y = 3.....equation A
.-6 + 6y = 17...equation B
I will multiply equation A by 6. This will create -6y, which then can be added to 6y to remove the y variable.
6x -6y = 18...We add this equation to the equation B.
After doing so, I noticed that BOTH variables cancel out.
This cannot happen because if both variables cancel out, then there is nothing to solve for.
This system of equations is inconsistent because it has NO SOLUTION.
