Question 182082: A 96 inch pipe is cut into 3 pieces. The second piece is seven inches shorter than the first piece, and the third piece is three times as long as the first piece. how long is each piece?
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+(x-7)+3x=96
x+x-7+3x=96
5x=96+7
5x=103
x=103/5
x=20.6 inches is the first piece.
20.6-7=13.6 in is the second piece.
3*20.6=61.8 in is the third piece.
Proof:
20.6+13.6+61.8=96
96=96
