Question 179733: A jet plane makes a 4800km trip to Europe in 5 hours, but takes 6 hours for he return trip. If the speed of wind is constant and throughout the trip, what is the speed of the wind and what is the speed of the plane in the air?
Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
4800=R*5
R=4800/5
R=960 MPH TO EUROPE.
4800=R*6
R=4800/6
5=800 MPH FOR THE RETURN TRIP.
(960-800)/2=160/2=80 MPH IS THE SPEED OF THE WIND.
960-80=880 IS THE SPEED OF THE AIRPLANE IN STILL AIR.
800+80=880 DITTO.
