3+2x-2<5+8x-16....distributed terms
:
1+2x<-11+8x.....collected like terms on either side
:
-6x<-12.....subtracted 8x and 1 from both sides
:
remember that when you divide or multiply an inequality by a negative the inequality has to be reversed

First get rid of the parentheses using the distributive property:

Collect:

Add -8x and -1 to both sides:

Multiply by and remember to reverse the sense of the inequality because of multiplying by a number less than zero.
