Question 179028: I can't seem to solve both just one of them, where did I go wrong? Please help.
Solve by any method. I tried the addition method.

Answer by vleith(2983) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
multiply the first one by 2 and the second one by 3. then subtract them
mult by 2 gives
mult by 3
Now subtract one from the other
-------------------
Find x using the first equation and y=-3
x=1
Now use both x = 1 and y = -3 in the second to verify
Does ???
so that works
Answer by checkley75(3666) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3x + 2y = -3 multiply by 2
2x - 5y = 17 multiply by -3
6x+4y=-6
-6x+15y=-51
------------------
19y=-57
y=-57/19
y=-3 ans.
3x+2*-3=-3
3x-6=-3
3x=-3+6
3x=3
x=3/3
x=1 ans.
Proof:
2*1-5*-3=17
2+15=17
17=17
