you mean how do you tell if a point is a solution to a given or derived equation. Plug it in and see if it makes the equation a true statement. If it does it is a solution on the graph of that equation
:example y=2x-3.....point (1,-1)

plug that point in
-1=2(1)-3
-1=-1 therefore this point is on the graph of y=2x-3
