Question 174041: Determine which of the following lines, if any, are parallel or perpendicular.
Line a:y=8x-5, Line b:y=1/8x+1, Line c:8x+y=2
Please Explain, I am quite confused as to how to get the answer.

Answer by Mathtut(3670)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
parallel lines have equal slopes and perpendicular lines have slopes which are negative inverses of each other
:
y=8x-5.......eq 1
y=(1/8)x+1....eq 2
y=-8x+2......eq 3
we have slopes of 8,(1/8), and -8

equations 2 and 3 are perpendicular to each other since their slopes are negative inverses of each other.
there is no other parallel or perpendicular lines
