Question 173806: killer whales usually swim at a rate of 3.2-9.7 kilometers per hour, though they can travel up to 48.4 kilometers per hour. Suppose a migrating killer whale is swimming at an average rate of 4.5 kilometers per hour. The distance d the whale has traveled in t hours can be predicted by the equation d=4.5t.graph the equation.
Answer by nycsub_teacher(90)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We need to make a picture of d = 4.5t.
This will be a straight line because it is a linear equation.
All you have to do is select different values for t, multiply those values by 4.5 and this will give you d values to make points.
When you have enough (t, d) points, graph the line on the coordinate plane.
I will give you two points and you can find the rest.
You only need two points to graph a line.
In your case, I would select four to be more exact.
Let t = 1
d = 4.5(1)
d = 4.5
The first point is (1, 4.5)
Graph the point (1, 4.5) on the coordinate plane. Let t be the horizontal distance and d = the vertical distance on the coordinate plane.
===============================================================
NEXT:
Let = 2
d = 4.5(2)
d = 9
The second point to graph on the coordinate plane is (2, 9).
Can you do the rest?
Once you have 4 points on the coordinate plane, connect the points with a straight line.
