Write equations for the vertical and horizontal lines passing through the point (9,1) in (x,y) coordinates.

It will be less confusing if you draw the picture.
Plot the point (9,1) on a coordinate system.
Draw a vertical line thru the point.
Do you see that the line passes thru ALL the points where x=9 ?
The equation of that vertical line is x=9
----------------------------------------------
Draw a horizontal line thru the point.
Do you see that the line passes thru ALL the points where y = 1 ?
The equation of that horizontal line is y = 1
