The slope in words is "how fast is y changing with x?" Now, think of the line x=-2. This is a vertical line that extends from negative infinity to positive infinity at point x=-2. So, x is not changing at all. In effect, the change in x is 0. Now, do we divide by zero? Certainly not. Thus, x=-2 slope is undefined.
If we had y=-2, we would say that the line is horizontal extended from negative infinity to positive infinity (x values) at point y=-2. The change in y is 0, but the change in x is consistent. 0/(anything)-0. So our slope for y=-2 would be 0.
