Question 142239: What are the solutions of
y = x^2 - 5x - 50
I can't seem to make an (x,y) intercept set up the right way?
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
there are an infinite number of solutions __ for every x-value, there is a y-value
__ my guess is that you are interested in the roots of the equation __ when y=0
x^2-5x-50=0 __ factoring __ (x+5)(x-10)=0
x+5=0 __ x=-5
x-10=0 __ x=10
those would be the x-intercepts
__ the y-intercept (when x=0) is [0^2-5(0)-50] or -50
