Question 141810: Find the equation of the line that contains (2,-5) and is
1. perpendicular to the line y=5/2x-4
2. parallel to the line y=2/3x+2

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. perpendicular means that the slopes are negative reciprocals __ slope=-2/5

using point-slope __ y-(-5)=(-2/5)(x-2) __ y+5=(-2/5)x+(4/5)
__ solving for y (slope-intercept) __ y=(-2/5)x-(21/5)

2. parallel means same slope __ slope=2/3

using point-slope __ y-(-5)=(2/3)(x-2) __ y+5=(2/3)x-(4/3)
__ solving for y (slope-intercept) __ y=(2/3)x-(19/3)
