SOLUTION: Okay, what about this one:
2(x-5) = 2x+10
This is what I came up with: but is it right and if not what did I do wrong?
2x + 10 = 2x - 20
2x + 10 + 2x = 2x - 20

Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Start with the given equation
Distribute
Add 10 to both sides
Subtract 2x from both sides
Combine like terms on the left side
Combine like terms on the right side
Simplify
Since this equation is never true for any x value, this means there are no solutions.
So you were on the right track, but needed to state what the answer meant.
