The slope is defined as the change in divided by
the change in . Also, when the equation is in the
form , is the slope. The y-intercept
occurs where , so
is the y-intercept
Your equation is
Putting it into the right form,
slope
y-intercept
I'll graph it, too

Well, good luck on your broken ankle!
Write, in slope-intercept form (y = mx+b) and graph:
Subtract 3 from both sides.
There's the equation in slope-intercept form.
The slope, and the y-intercept,
To graph this, you need only two points, one of which can be found by letting x = 0 then solving for y, and then by letting y = 0 then solving for x. Then you plot these two points on your coordinate graph paper, having previously drawn your x-axis and y-axis, then join the two points with a straight line.
Substitute x = 0.
Substitute y = 0.
Add 3 to both sides.
Multiply both sides by -3.
The two points are:
(0, -3) and (-9, 0)
The graph will look like:

------------------------
y = (-1/3)x - 3
---------
slope = -1/3
y-intercept is -3
